Re:  Lake Macatawa Kayak and Lakefront Park Acquisition Grant

Improving and increasing public access to our beautiful Lake Michigan and Lake Macatawa shorelines has been a prime objective of current and previous Park Township Boards of Trustees.  In the spirit of this objective, Park Township applied for a Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant through the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources in March of 2018.  In December we were notified Park Township had been selected to receive a grant in the amount of $675,000 to purchase property adjacent to the Park Township boat ramp on South Shore Drive.  Earlier in the year we received a similar grant from the State of Michigan for $40,000 to develop a kayak launch and storage at the Townships Boat Launch location.  With the funds to acquire the adjacent property we hope to create much needed public access to Lake Macatawa for a kayak trail and lakefront park.

On January 10th at 6:30pm, Park Township will hold a public comment period at the regular scheduled township Board of Trustees meeting, located at 52-152nd Ave. This public comment period is open to anyone who would like to voice their ideas/thoughts regarding the park property acquisition.  Community meetings regarding detailed design elements of a park on the property will occur at a later date.  These combined efforts and grant awards represents Park Township’s continued commitment to provide first class recreational opportunities and quality of life for our residents, their families and the broader community we all share.
