PRESS RELEASE

RE: Grant awarded for Park Township’s Parks and Recreation Departments

Over the last year, Park Township has put a considerable investment in time and resources into the Parks and Recreation Departments.  We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $150,000 grant for improvements to Winstrom Park through Michigan’s Land and Water Conservation Grant program.  These funds, along with an additional $150,000 match by Park Township will go towards replacing the playground equipment, building universally accessible bleachers, wayfinding signage, a new trail head and parking improvements.

In addition to this grant, Park Township has already awarded a contractor for construction to begin in the spring on new Pickle Ball Courts, a new Bocce ball court, new sidewalks, and a new basketball court; along with landscaping and aesthetic improvements.  The Township has also committed to either resurfacing or replacing the existing tennis courts.  All these improvements are in addition to the newly designed Disc Golf Course on the northern side of the Winstrom Park.

The Township will also be awarding a contract adding additional trails and amenities at Keppel Park, which was 50% funded by the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund Grant and the rest matched by the Township.   In the upcoming spring season, the Township will be looking at a number of possible park and recreation projects, including installation of a universally accessible Kayak Launch at our South Side Boat Ramp and improvements to the Cooper Van Wieren Park / trails.

Park Township is committed to providing affordable recreation opportunities for adults, children and families.  We are expanding our offerings to include residents of all ages.  Ballroom dance classes, beach volleyball, drawing, sewing, and indoor pickle ball are a few of our adult offerings.  Among our youth programs are karate, sewing, archery, dance, soccer and baton.  We still offer free roller skating for families on Saturdays, at the Community Center, along with safety classes, etiquette training, writing and grammar workshops, and planetarium events.  Our full program is available on http://recreation.parktownship.org/

Park Township Board of Trustees and staff recognize the value that recreation, open space, and first class amenities have on our community.  We hope to continue to provide and constantly improve on our parks infrastructure and recreation opportunities.
