Welcome to Park Township Airport (HLM).

Established in 1937, the airport has a rich history as one of Michigan’s earliest airports.  It has served as an airmail stop, passenger service, and as a military pilot training airport during WW II with pilots being housed in the community building on the current fairgrounds. It once was the premier business airport in Holland where many companies would base their corporate plane. Most corporate planes are now located at the West Michigan Regional Airport.  Although with direct access to companies located on the north side, we still see some business traffic.

While times have changed, the airport continues to be very popular and many indicators show HLM becoming more of a “destination” airport.  Many visitors come to enjoy a weekend or a day on the lake shore, or as a convenient way to access their boat at our local marinas.  We offer a courtesy car, tent camping area and free bicycles, although many will bring their bikes with them in their plane.

With spring approaching and plans for another busy year hosting large events like the Euro-Hangar car show or the Gold Coast Salmon fishing tournament, we wanted to let local residents get an inside look at airport operations and general aviation by hosting an Open House on May 20th.  We want to invite everyone in the township to come out and see your airport!  The open house will have food, fun, aircraft, cars and a few surprises.  Learn about flying and how the airport operates.  Ask questions, talk to pilots and instructors.  Learn about skydiving, power parachutes, power para gliders and ultra-lights.  Always wondered about helicopter flying?  This will be an opportunity to watch demonstrations and talk with the pilots.  Local pilots will have their planes, and others from the area will be flying in.  This will be an event in which you can participate, and will not want to miss!

Park Township will keep you informed with more details of this upcoming open house on our web site and through our email newsletters.  If you are interested in being involved in the preparation or volunteering during the open house on May 20th, you can call Roger at 616-218-7474 or Doug 616-994-9956.
