At the October 11, 2018 Park Township Board of Trustees Meeting, the trustees voted unanimously to oppose the legalization of recreational marijuana.  The primary reasons centered around concern for the safety of children as exposure to marijuana would become more likely, concern for traffic safety as recreational marijuana has been linked to increased traffic fatalities and accidents while driving under the influence, concern for likely increase in car insurance rates as anecdotal evidence from other states that have legalized recreational marijuana have seen such increased rates, and concern about the overall lack of evidence supporting an economic benefit to the community.
